This end of terrace cottage has been designed to be the ideal country holiday home, compact yet roomy, warm and with every modern
convenience. It is situated in the heart of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales in the pretty village of Gayle, 1/2 mile from the market town of
Hawes. Hawes - (the name is derived from the old Yorkshire Dialect "hause" meaning "pass through the mountain") stands at the head of Wensleydale, at a point where the Dale abuts the central highland which forms the stunning Pennine
Way. As a result the surrounding scenery is very dramatic and ranges from the rounded upland fells of the Pennines, to the broad valley slopes of the Dale at their highest point bare, scarred by rock outcrops, but lower down more fertile until, they become green meadows.
Hawes 1/2 a mile away by road and less by a footpath which crosses meadows by the river (Pennine Way), there is a range of shops for provisions and goods, also several cafes, restaurants and
pubs. Tuesday is market day in Hawes, for food and goods (in the main street) and livestock(at the Auction Mart) and both these are well worth a
visit. The Yorkshire Dales offers the ideal setting for a memorable country
holiday. There are walks in every direction, strolls by the river and across meadows or for the more adventurous "The Pennine Way" which passes within 50 yards of the
cottage. For the car tourers there are countless dales to explore, so many that a different scenic route each day can be
planned. Awes offers several interesting visitor attractions, including a working ropemakers, the Countryside Museum and the world famous Wensleydale Cheese Visitor Centre.
Herons Beck occupies a lovely position, as it is situated on the banks of a tumbling mountain steam - Duerley Beck, someway above the water level, at the point where the stream cascades through a series of waterfalls - only 25 feet away, this view is supplemented by glimpses of the broad sweeping valley of
Wensleydale. The views of the Dale from the bedroom windows are even better.
