- near Hawes
Gayle is a picturesque, quaint village situated just half a mile from the busy market town and tourist centre of Hawes and right in the heart of beautiful Wensleydale. It is split in two by the lovely stepped waterfalls of the Duerley Beck and joined by the ancient packhorse bridge across them: indeed the bridge itself is the village meeting point where locals and visitors exchange the news of the day whilst admiring the superb scenery. Surrounding Gayle are meadows and upland pastures in which cows and sheep quietly graze: these are criss-crossed by bubbling streams and a host of footpaths (including the Pennine Way) suitable for both the after lunch stroller and the more seriously inclined. A lovely spot then to enjoy a country holiday exploring the countless scenic delights of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.
"Flags Cottage" compliments this choice location: a superb character Cottage with an original stone lintel over the front door dated 1669 but sympathetically restored and modernised and now of appeal to discerning Holidaymakers who want to enjoy a Holiday in some style and comfort. Take the spacious Dining Lounge for instance: its central focus a feature old

If you manage to extricate yourself from the captivating atmosphere of this lovely room (not easy!) you will find the rest of the accommodation in the Cottage easily its equal, with medium oak windows, doors, and skirtings throughout, everything so very tasteful and warm too with oil central heating and radiators in every room.
