Drumaldrace - Hawes
This terrace cottage has been designed to be the ideal country holiday home, compact, yet roomy, warm, and with every modern convenience. It is situated in the heart of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, in the picturesque ancient village of Gayle, near Hawes, Wensleydale. Hawes (the name is derived from old Yorkshire dialect "hause" meaning "pass through the mountains") stands at the head of Wensleydale, at the point where the Dale abuts the central highland mass which forms the stunning Pennine Hills. As a result, the surrounding scenery is very dramatic, and ranges from the rounded upland fells of the Pennines, to the broad valley slopes of the Dale at their highest point bare, scarred by rock outcrops, but lower down more fertile until, at river level, they become green meadows.
Drumaldrace is a newly built property a few minutes walk from the main market area of Hawes in Upper Wensleydale. Hawes provides an excellent base for touring all the Yorkshire Dales, the Eden Valley and Lake District, all within day trip driving range and wonderful scenery all the
way. On hand are lovely walks, along quiet river banks and across meadows or for the more adventurous by following the Pennine Way (which passes through Hawes) onto the surrounding high fells.
Hawes is the capital of Upper Wensleydale, and has a good range of shops and services, a choice of tea rooms, pubs and restaurants all serving excellent
food. Wensleydale Creamery, a working rope makers, and the Dales Countryside Museum are a few of the interesting attractions to
visit. A must is a visit to the town's street market held on a Tuesday.
