Dale View - Near Hawes
This terrace cottage has been designed to be the ideal country holiday home, compact, yet roomy, warm, and with every modern convenience. It is situated in the heart of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, in the picturesque ancient village of Gayle, near Hawes, Wensleydale. Hawes (the name is derived from old Yorkshire dialect "hause" meaning "pass through the mountains") stands at the head of Wensleydale, at the point where the Dale abuts the central highland mass which forms the stunning Pennine Hills. As a result, the surrounding scenery is very dramatic, and ranges from the rounded upland fells of the Pennines, to the broad valley slopes of the Dale at their highest point bare, scarred by rock outcrops, but lower down more fertile until, at river level, they become green meadows.
In the quaint, cobbled street town of Hawes "1/2 mile away by road, and less by a delightful footpath across meadows by the river (Pennine Way), there is a range of shops for daily provisions, and also several cafes, restaurants, and pubs. Tuesday is market day in Hawes, for food and goods (in the main street) and livestock (at the Auction Mart) and both these are well worth a visit.
The Yorkshire Dales offers the ideal setting for a memorable country holiday. There are walks in every direction: strolls by rivers and across meadows, or even along the famous "Pennine Way" footpath, which passes within 100 yards of "Dale View" . For car tourers, there are countless dales to explore, so many that a different scenic route each day can be planned. Hawes offers several interesting visitor attractions, including a working ropemakers, the Countryside Museum and the world famous Wensleydale Cheese Visitor Centre.
"Dale View" occupies a marvelous position, as it is situated on the banks of a tumbling mountain stream, Duerley Beck, some way above the water level, at the point where the river cascades through a series of
waterfalls. From the comfort of the warm lounge/dining room, you are treated to a superb view of these stepped waterfalls, only 25 feet away: this view is supplemented by glimpses of the broad, sweeping valley of
